America's Next Top Model dolls by MGA

America's Next Top Model Sienna doll (Photo above)

It's always a thrill to see a new line of fashion dolls aimed at the mass market. America's Next Top Model dolls are based on the hit TV show of the same name. At the time they are aesthetically current and pleasing, with well-done modeling poses, great hair and twist and turn swivel waists. As a collector of fashion dolls, I wished that the dolls had nicer clothing. I was very displeased and disappointed in the quality of clothing and shoes for the dolls. Those of us who are fans of the show (ANTM) as well as fashion doll collectors care about the quality of the clothing. Otherwise it’s nice to see a new line of fashion dolls.

The Pros of The Dolls (Win)
• Based on popular television show “America's Next Top Model”
• Great hair!
• Nicely packaged.
• Dressed in daywear.
• Dolls have stories about their pursuit of a modeling career, just like on the show.
• Neat "before" and "after" photos.

The Cons of The Dolls (Loss)
• Fabrics used for clothing is very disappointing.
• Dolls clothing and shoes cannot be interchanged with other 12” fashion dolls.

Diva of The Day "Bette Davis" (6/27/13)

Ruth Elizabeth "Bette" Davis, was born on April 5, 1908 and passed away on October 6, 1989. She was an American actress of film, television and theater. Noted for her willingness to play unsympathetic characters, she was highly regarded for her performances in a range of film genres, from contemporary crime melodramas to historical and period films and occasional comedies, although her greatest successes were her roles in romantic dramas.

After appearing in Broadway plays, Davis moved to Hollywood in 1930, but her early films for Universal Studios (and as loan out to other studios) were unsuccessful. She joined Warner Bros. in 1932 and established her career with several critically acclaimed performances.

Guidelines for collecting dolls as a hobby

Guideline 1: Focus On Collecting. If you don't already have some, You don't need one.

Guideline 2: Impulse buying is a no-no. You should wait at least 24 hours after seeing a picture, someone's post or reading a review before doing a search on e-bay for that item.

Guideline 3: Make it a rule that if a new doll comes in the house. One old doll has to leave the house. It does not have to be the same quality or type. You can sell it. Give it someone, or donated.

Guideline 4: Excluding convention dolls or Exclusives, I will not pay more (nor should you) than retail for any doll. There are exceptions what so ever I say.

Example: for years I wanted a Sybarite doll by SUPERfrock, but because of the prices of these dolls (sometimes $400 to even a couple of thousand) I would never be able to afford them. I was at my favorite used toy store in Alameda, CA. Toy Safari and I saw Ivory D’Royce (pictured below) for $70 (EBay lists her for $799).

16” FBR Sybarite SUPERfrock SUPERdoll “Ivory D’Royce” Gilt & Fortune LE 150

I asked the lady if the price was correct. She replied yes. Well it was obvious that she did not know what she had nor had even seen one of these dolls before. I quickly scooped her up and left the store immediately in fear that somehow she would find out what she just lost out on.

Guideline 5: Never buy a doll without seeing a photo of it. Even a promo photo counts.

I'm Not Just A..........

I’m not just a doll collector, but a doll collector of many different types dolls.
Barbie dolls, fashion dolls and action figures. I was not allowed to have dolls as a child because of being a boy and it was not accepted for a male child to like or even play with dolls. One of my female cousin(s) would bribe me to come and spend the weekend nights with her by giving me a doll here and there and I would take them. I would hide them in my room or in the back of a closet or under the bed until my mother found them and threw them away or she would hide them from me and I would find them again because I was very nosey child that got into everything.

As a child I had to enjoy them in secret. As an adult I can buy dolls and keep them and it reminds me of a time in my life where things seemed so simple and carefree. I have a very large doll collection. I have everything from 12” Barbie dolls to 16” Sybarite dolls to JAMIEshow as well as She-Ra and He-Man action figures.

There are some really great dolls out there. Join me on my journey to find them and have some doll fun!
